If you read the post after Kacey Musgraves’ SNL performance, you might be wondering why I didn’t mention the Forrest Gump reference in her first segment. Dear reader, it went over my head!
I only realized the reference when reading this Stereogum post. Since I am something of a cinephile (lowers very cool sunglasses to the end of my nose), I have seen Forrest Gump. The reference was not immediately obvious to me because I have a very simple mind. If Musgraves had come out singing “Blowin In The Wind" without a backing band then maybe it would click for me. I am not aware of larger critical reassessment of the movie, but generally I don’t think people today are as enamored with it as the audiences of 1994 were. Times change! Kacey Musgraves has reminded us all that Robin Wright’s Jenny really gets a shitty deal in that movie.
For the recommendation, there is a twitter account that clips hosts introducing the musical guest. A treat if I must say so.
This newsletter has NOT interacted much with the Daniel Craig introducing the weekend twitter account because that account is for chill weekend tidings and not the music of the Weeknd. However, that account has demonstrated that people love SNL introduction content so I am glad someone took the initiative to do an account more in line with the musical intersections of Saturday Night Live.
